Summary0003812: Cannot connect to LDAP Server/Error Message not helpful
Description

When trying to use the LDAP authentication, the following error appears in the SOGO log:

Sep 09 13:50:12 sogod [183]: <0x0x7f55c7ffbed0[LDAPSource]> <NSException: 0x7f55c7ae49c0> NAME:LDAPException REASON:operation bind failed: Can't contac
t LDAP server (0xFFFFFFFF) INFO:{"error_code" = "-1"; login = "uid=janosch,ou=users,dc=infornautik,dc=de"; }
Sep 09 13:50:12 sogod [183]: SOGoRootPage Login from '132.230.194.84, 172.17.0.22' for user 'janosch' might not have worked - password policy: 65535 g
race: -1 expire: -1 bound: 0

While this shows quite some details including the ip of the person trying to log in, what it doesn't show is what server and port it actually tried to connec to, and whether the connection was refused or whether it was a protocol error, ....

Since we tried manually connecting to our LDAP server with netcat and that worked fine, we're unsure where the problem is and it would be very helpful if the error message was enhanced with some more details.

Steps To Reproduce
  1. Install SOGO and a separate LDAP server
  2. Configure LDAP somehow incorrectly (since we're not sure what exactly we did wrong, we can't give you exact instructions here)
  3. Use login and examine log

"Can't contact LDAP server" is quite clear. Check your hostname and port in your configuration and check your firewall rules.
