Summary0003769: Categories can't be edited from settings
Description

When using the latest SoGo Connector 31.0.3 with Thunderbird, you cannot edit categories from the settings (Thunderbird-Settings -> SoGo -> Contact Categories):

  1. You cannot see any of the available categories
  2. You cannot add a category
  3. You cannot edit a category
  4. You cannot delete a category

It is possible to edit categories via advanced thunderbird configuration, but that is not a solution for normal users, so this feature is basically broken for everybody.

I don't use the english translation of the software so my description might not be 100% accurate.

Steps To Reproduce

Install Thunderbird 45.
Install addon SoGo Connector 31.0.3
Navigate to the settings dialogue shown in the screenshot and the bug is right there

This one is nasty. It looks like XUL issues vs. JavaScript scoped variables. Looking into it.

It would be great to see a fix here - any progress?

In the meantime, some more details on how to workaround:

1) It's easy to see available categories. For example, go to address book, right click a contact, click categories, and it shows the list.

2) You can add a category as follows. Edit a contact, click on the categories tab, and type in a new value into the box.

3) The "advanced thunderbird configuration" method in more detail:

  • Open "about:config": Tools/Options/Advanced/General/Config Editor.
  • Search for the key sogo-connector.contacts.categories
  • Edit the value, note that items are separated with comma.
