Summary | 0002974: CardDAV "categories" are not displayed as "mailing lists"
Description | I'm using a ownCloud server 7.0.2 with Thunderbird 31.2.0 and SOGo Connector 24.0.7 I sorted all my contacts into several groups on the ownCloud server. When I sync with SOGo Connector, I get all the contacts, the groups are reported as "Categories" when I display a contact's card in Thunderbird, but there are no "mailing lists" created in Thunderbird, which makes searching, filtering or sending emails to a group very, very difficult. It's also confusing since SOGo "Categories" really are second-class citizen, whereas ownCloud "groups" are clearly visible and a user would expect to get a straightforward mapping between these groups and the mailing list feature of Thunderbird.

Additional Information | I've tried to hack the source code of SOGo Connector, but it seems that Thunderbird's address book is also very buggy. For example, it doesn't really understand contacts without a Primary Email set:

Searching by "group" (category) seems to work in vanilla Thunderbird for me (option in the search box). However, Thunderbird seems to lack functionality to display an overview over all available categories. The good news is that there seems to be an extension exactly for exactly this purpose: Maybe this works for you as well? Btw, using a category as "mailing list" works by selecting all contacts of a category, even in vanilla Thunderbird. But I agree that this is suboptimal and the mentioned addon promises to provide a better solution. |
