Summary0002754: installing inverse-sogo connector on thunderbird on a third user-account on the same pc freezes thunderbird
Description

I'll copy the mailing list sent to mozilla:

  1. I'm on ubuntu 14.10 64 bits. thunderbird 1:24.4.0+build1-0ubuntu1 . I changed a pop into a imap account, following the instructions on the web for doing so. All of the exisitng e-mails were stored in the local folder. I also installed owncloud and the sogo plugin (I did the same in other user accounts preventing the ubuntu one end). Only on this user account after 10 to 15 seconds, the names of the icons on the left hand side of the client disappear and the icons are replaced for archive icons. The client also freezes. I thought this was related to an index corruption and eliminated the local folder, but the problem persists. I uploaded two png images in order to make the problem graphical. I also eliminated the sql* related filres, as suggested on the web, but the problems persists.

  2. Hi Matt,

I followed Yr. suggestion and it worked fine. So I started thunderbird again, with all add-ons enabled, disabling one by one following this order: enigmail 1.5.2 lightning 2.6.4 provider for google calendar 0.25 inverse sogo connector 24.0.4 and voila, this last was the guilty one.

So, I removed this add-on, tried thunderbird, wich proved to work fine, reinstalled sogo, all went bad back again, so I uninstalled it once again.

After that, I updated thunderbird to 24.5 via normal update process inside ubuntu, reinstalled sogo, but all went bad again, so I unstalled it once more.

If the connector were the guilty one on every account, I could understand the problem, but, on the same PC, I run two more user accounts with a thunderbird account on each one with an identical configuration as the one that troubles me: none of them produces any trouble with the add-on enabled. So, is it an ubuntu problem, a thunderbird trouble or a sogo trouble? That's a good question.

  1. In addition to the before said, I downloaded the *.xpi again, reinstalled it in prevention of a corrupted file. It didn't work either. I also depurated the directory containing the adresses, since some of them had an input beginning with strange charaters (e.g., starting with a : ), I also deleted the addresses in the cloud storage. Nothing helped. But each time I launched thunderbird again, after killing it via monitor because of the freezes, I noticed that the sogo connector was uploading the addresses, but was not syncing, since it duplicated the addresses in the cloud. In any of the cases it completed the task, since thunderbird frozed before.

May be I should delete the thunderbird account for this particular user and install it again. I can not uninstall thunderbird as a hole, since the other users are using their account without troubles.

Question: what did you mean by 'changed a pop account into an IMAP one'?

  1. Did you simply add the exact same account as an IMAP account? Or did you follow some random $HowTo on the internet to do this by manually editing files?

  2. Is the new IMAP account the ONLY email account configured for this user?

(ie, did you leave the old POP account configured/active?)

  1. If there is more than one account, did you change the new IMAP account to be the DEFAULT?

Regarding your question about the conversion from pop to imap, I followed the isntructions in the mozilla website. I needed to finish with an existing pop account, but convert it to an imap account:

  1. https://support.mozilla.org/es/kb/cambiar-desde-una-cuenta-pop-una-cuenta-imap
The conversion was made on a 32 bit ubuntu version. Later, I copied the local folder from the existing .thunderbird account to the new one, located in a 64 bit environment. I also forgot to disable the pop account in the 32 bit version, but did it later. No sogo connector was used in the 32 bit environment. Only in the 64 bit version.

  2. Yes. Each user account has a its own thunderbird imap account oin a 64 bit environment.

  3. No there is no more than one, as said in 2.

Sorry, I don't speak spanish so that link doesn't help me...

More than likely this 'conversion' is the source of your problem.

  1. Save the mail into your Local Folders

  2. Delete the account

  3. Create the account new as an IMAP account

  4. Move/copy the mail back into the account from your local folders.

That will most likely resolve the issue...

Hi. I didn't see your suggestion. Moreover, since I had a hard disk failure, I had to install all from scratch on a new one

The main difference was the order I followed while installing thunderbird and the lical folders. This time I istalled thunderbird and its extensions, sogo connector included, and then I copied the local mail files. I don't know if this wad key, but now I have no problems with the sogo conector and thunderbird. Before this, I installed each upgrade of thunderbird, the OS (not the version, which remained beeing 14,04) and tried to activate the nrwt available sogo connector.

Bottom line, it works fine now.

As of 2015/5/5, after launching thuderbird, my personal account started to behave freezing tb and erasing the left-hand-side icons on thunderbird, while hovering with the mouse over it. (sogo connector 31.0.1; thunderbird 31.6; owncloud 8.0-2; ubuntu 15.04; kernel 3.19; 64 bits)

The day before, I changed my webdav provider and reconfigured the access route, both in owncloud and tb, accordingly, for contacts and calendar information, the last one, without any issue.

In short, the problem was resolved by moving the contacts from the existing syncing account in tb, to another non-syncing account (after disabling sogo connector in order to avoid freezing tb), and back again (after enabling the sogo connector), by groups of up to 30 each time (try, ad libitum, how many contacts you may transfer each time). Too many accounts to be transfered at once seem to jam the process of syncing.

I hope this helps someone who has or has had a similar issue. It is just a comment, I don't want to open the bug report again.
