One of the typical errors I found after a long search for this problem is the following: For example, if you use IMAP with Caldav and you use shared calendars, Outlook always tries to write all calendar entries using the “Western European” character set. The “Western European” character set is an obsolete and purely Microsoft-specific character set that is not actually used in the Linux world. If, for example, Thunderbird accepts an appointment that was created with Outlook, synchronization problems often occur. Or vice versa, if an appointment that was created with UTF8 comes into Outlook from Thunderbird, e.g. because it came from a Linux system, the Outlook calendar synchronization comes to a standstill. It is important to know that “sogo-tool checkup username” apparently does not check for such errors and does not find them. It would be fantastic if Sogo could find a solution to set all calendar .ics files to UTF-8, for example. Conversely, it also happens in Thunderbird that if such appointments are accepted, they cannot be processed by Thunderbird. This also happens if you use Oulook with ActiveSync. The only solution I have found is the following: The Outlook “.ost” must then be repaired using “SCANPST.EXE”. To do this, run “SCANPST.EXE” several times until no more errors occur. This can be found, for example, in Outlook 2016 32Bit under “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\SCANPST.EXE”. At least new appointments should work properly again. Umgekehrt kommt es dann auch in Thunderbird vor, daß bei der Annahme solcher Termine, diese von Thunderbird auch nicht verarbeitet werden können. Das passiert auch, wenn man Oulook mit ActiveSync verwendet. It does not work perfectly, not even under 32-bit Outlook. For example, if you create an appointment with Outlook and CALdav and another person with whom you share this appointment, e.g. a recurring appointment, then errors occur either in the acceptance of the appointment with Thunderbird or when you change the recurring appointment from Thunderbird. |

Which Outlook version are you using exactly? You can simply do the following test to be really sure that your problem is exclusively due to the 64-bit version. Nevertheless, this does not change anything about the character set encoding problem of the .ics files that end up on the Sogo server. |
