Summary0002638: Please add support for aspell
Description

The webspellcheker service currently used by SOGo Web Mail for spell checking seems troublesome to me for at least several reasons:

  • if I understand, it basically passes all words typed to the webspellchecker service (privacy concerns);
  • webspellchecker offers a somewhat limited selection of languages (around 15, compared to 90+ for aspell).
    My understanding is that CKEditor employed by SOGo Web Mail supports aspell, via a CKEditor plugin. Would it be possible to add support to it in SOGo?

Can you point me to the plugin's page on ckeditor.com?

Many thanks for the prompt response. This is what I found: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8723384/aspell-with-ckeditor.

We're using version 4 and the download link on the page you found is dead.

Yes, I realized that in the meantime. A quick googling took me to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/17969663/ckeditor-upgrade-from-3-6-to-4-found-aspell-plug-in-port-to-4-doesnt-work, but that doesn't look all that promising. I can't believe there's no solution, though.

Maybe this plugin could be interesting: http://ckeditor.com/addon/jqueryspellchecker

Does look interesting at first sight. Code maturity/activity of development might be an issue, though (last commit is well over a year old).

Fyi, there's now an aspell plugin claiming to be compatible with CKEditor 4 :
https://github.com/tjahjono/aspell-for-ckeditor4x

There's also nanospell (http://ckeditor-spellcheck.nanospell.com/) that seems to be quite less expensive that the default WebSpellChecker. Any chance to integrate nanospell into SOGo ?
