I think it does not make sense to sort conversations by date when always considering the date of the first email of an conversation.
When considering sorting conversations by date, the "date" of a conversation should be defined as the date of latest received email of a conversation.

I hope you agree. Otherwise it is a feature request. But I cannot imagine any use case for the current behavior.
